Malaysia has seen a rise in car accidents as of lately and this is due to the rise of increased vehicles on the road .The increased amount of vehicles on the road over the decade has seen a staggering total amount of 25 million vehicles as of 2014 . This data also states that the accident rates have almost doubled and the risk of getting into accidents seems really high. While driving, it’s impossible to avoid accidents that take place outside of our car yet we as households would definitely love to reduce the risk by whatever means necessary. This is where we take notice of the trend of technologies over time that has helped reduce the errors in humans abilities to operate a car.
Jotting back to just a few decades ago, Auto makers were deciding on creating airbags as the latest state of the art safety feature. Today, it is a standard followed by carmakers while manufacturing their cars to the end users. Look at where we have come from, from the creation of the seatbelts to the airbags. There is a whole host of new vehicle safety technologies that are making its way into the market, aimed at removing the human error factor and preventing accidents.
Collision avoidance or warning systems have always been the focus of in – car technology. Manufacturers have sought and did developments to aim make vehicles safer by reducing driver reaction time in emergency brake situation and in some case removing the need for the driver to react at all. Safety systems vary between car makers, the principle though remained the same and that is to use the camera or sensors to detect when a vehicle is approaching another vehicle too closely or quickly (via laser or radar). Car systems will send audio or visual cues to the driver to warn then of an impending collision.
The same in car technology is being used to avoid accidents involving lane changes and blind spots in side rear view mirrors. Blind zone alert and lane departure system also use sensors to warn drivers of objects travelling in blinds spot that would otherwise require drivers to remove their eyes from the road to find. A long night’s drive out can leave you fatigued, and a car sitting in the blind spot of your mirror can be easy oversight with terrible consequences. Blind zone alert is an extra set of eyes that won’t lose its wits after a nine hour drive.
Reverse camera now come with cross traffic warning safety systems to prevent you from reversing out of a parking spot and into oncoming traffic. Audio and visual signals typically alert drivers of any approaching vehicle due to cross their path , giving drivers a chance to stop and avoid a collision. Again , vehicle sensor technology is used to detect and prevent an all-too-common and potentially dangerous situation.
In-car technology is not restricted to preventing major collisions; it is also used in park assist systems, now standard on many vehicles. Working on the same principle as collision avoidance, these safety systems offer audio and visual directions and alarms to warn drivers that they are too close to cars parked nearby. More advanced systems can literally park the car automatically at the press of a button . In the European market and the Japanese market , cars such the Japanese Prius hybrid already have automatic parallel parking capability and also the Lexus LS Sedan.
